BANGALORE: ITC Infotech, a subsidiary of ITC Ltd., announced yesterday a new strategic partnership with SAP India Pvt.Ltd. This new partnership will allow ITC to become an authorized solution reseller of SAP Business By Design.
Per the SAP.com website “SAP Business By Design is a complete, fully integrated business management solution delivered on demand.” So what does that mean, right? As I understand it,
Weekly Jobless Claims Reach Eight Month High
The number of people who filed new applications for jobless benefits (also known as unemployment benefits) had made a turn in the wrong direction. This week the jobless claims increased by 43,000 to a seasonally adjusted 474,000 for the week.
The Labor Department claims this surprise jump in jobless claims is due to Spring Break even though this is a seasonally adjusted number.
Are we sitting on top of the fence of another recession?
Martin Homlish Leaves SAP AG
Homlish has announced that he is leaving software giant SAP AG (SAP, SAP.XE), where he worked in positions such as Global Chief Marketing Officer. After 10 years of working with SAP AG, Homlish has taken a position with Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) as their Chief Marketing Officer and will be reporting to ex-SAP and new HP’s CEO Léo Apotheker.
Apotheker was named HP’s CEO back in September 2010. Apotheker’s focus is on three fronts.
•He wants to build a cloud platform to compete with Amazon Web Services, Rackspace and Microsoft Windows Azure.
•He also plans to build an online application marketplace. He looks for HP to provide security, data analytics and app management.
•Apotheker also recently mentioned the new release of HP’s beta version of WebOS that will run on a Web browser on a Microsoft Windows based PC
With HP’s new direction, Martin Homlish joins another ex-SAP to help HP move past their hardware interest to a direction of cloud computing services. Homlish has more then 25 years of brand management, with 10 years with SAP AG and before SAP AG he spent 15 years with Sony Corporation (SNE) as their Chief Marketing Officer and President and CEO of SAP’s global marketing.
HP reported a 16% jump in profit from its fiscal first-quarter reporting, which was mostly credited to sales in the Americas and Asia-Pacific regions.
“Marty is a world-class marketing executive who will lead efforts to drive our entire business forward by creating a unified marketing approach across the company so we present ‘one HP’ to the market,” said Apotheker.

SAP Executives Interview Standalone Strategy
SAP’s co-chief executives Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann talks to the Financial times in an interview with the hopes of brushing away the rumors of a take over.
SAP plan to unveiling their new mobile applications based on a Sybase platform this May at Sapphire. One would only think, with the launch of SAP Mobile Apps, their sales revenue would only increase. Recently, SAP has had their stock increase in market value as they were up for Q1 FY11. So far, so good, right?
Even with SAP’s strong numbers and new apps the rumor mill is hard at work in a maturing IT Software market that is looking for more consolidation.

SAP AG (SAP) Stock Reaches New 52-Week High
Chip Brian from Smartrend reported that SAP hit a new 52-week high. Over the past 52-weeks, shares of SAP have traded between $40.95 and $63.32 and just hit a new 52-week high the other day.
Smartrend had put out an “uptrend” alert for the end of March, and was correct in doing so. SAP stock had risen by 5.8% after their alert.
It appears that SAP AG has been trading very near their resistance level so watch your pennies moving forward.
What do I know? I personally thought SAP stock was going to take a hit as the Japan Earthquake happened only a few short weeks before SAP was to report their earnings. Oracle on the other hand had reported at the end of February, which I thought would have given the advantage to Oracle.
It appears I have a few things to learn before jumping in to this rollercoaster of a market.
SAP Services Partner FreeBorders Offers New upgrade Strategy
SFGate (San Francisco Chronicle) released an article today about Freeborders, Inc., which is an SAP Certified Services Partner that is focused on financial services and Internet based business. SFGate reported that Freeborders is expanding its services to include SAP ECC 6.0 so they can now offer their clients “upgrade analysis to assess the expected return of investment (ROI) of an upgrade as well as the overall impact on the business.”
This statement is a bit funny to me. I believe any company that wants to win new SAP upgrade business, has to be willing to conduct an analysts to find out the impact of the companies ROI? I believe that’s just stating the obvious to an old hat like me.
As we all know from working with SAP, that there is no cookie-cutter approach to anything having to do with SAP. However, Freeborders seems to have developed and implemented a proven methodology and tools to help guide their SAP install base clients through an ECC 6.0 update and help them maximize their ROI.
Has anyone done business with Freeborders? If so, what do you think?
Smartsoft Released New Mobile App
The iPhone has paved the way for brands running mobile marketing campaigns, but in the past year Android has made some head-way with taking an increasing amount of market-share. Where does the Windows mobile OS fit in?
This morning a blog by Kevin Benedict caught my eye by saying that Smartsoft Mobile had just released their latest version of their mobile application for the new windows phone operating system.
The new mobile app by Smartsoft allows Oracle and SAP users to connect through mobile middleware to their back office systems. Think about getting alerts to Purchase Orders that need to be approved. Better yet, wouldn’t it be great to know when a purchase order has been approved without finding it the next day in your email Inbox?
With these types of alerts you can only think that an increase in personal utilization and a reduction in delays of work flow can only mean an increase in production from both your employees and partner.
The app is ready for download now. If you have SAP and try this app, please let us know what you think.

SAP Governance New Release
SAP is set to start shipping its new release of SAP governance, which is a risk and compliance (GRC) application that manages and analyzes an organization’s risk and regulatory compliance activities through a unified system.
This new release comes only a month after SAP released a major upgrade to their BusinessObjects portfolio. The new GRC applications has a new built in tool that will define and show risk, which includes business intelligence dashboards like Crystal Reports.
The new release is said to be easier to configure and manage. Jim Dunham, Group VP of GRC solutions even mentioned in an interview that it’s setup to be easier to train managers. What a concept, managers that can be trained easier! We’ll have to see about that as we all know some managers just don’t get SAP.
The new release is said to have as many as 100 third-party packages by the end of the year, but currently on has 20 at the moment.
With all of the new regulations coming out of DC on a daily bases this software is well timed. The GRC includes BusinessObjects Rick Management and Process Control with the ability to provide policy management and audit capabilities, data archiving, and security controls.
